The GSWGA Board would like to pass the following message from Girls Golf to our members should anyone wish to contribute to this cause:

Dear Mrs. Eichhorn,

I am writing on behalf of LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Greater Newark. A donation from the WMGA helped to establish our site in 2005. We are now located in Union County at the Galloping Hill Golf Course Learning Center and were fortunate to have an LPGA professional as our Co-Site Director for 2010. Mrs. Gerri Scarpa continues to serve as a board member. Gerri and Ed Brockner, Director of Development for Metropolitan First Tee, suggested that I update you on our progress.

As you are aware, Girls Golf is a developmental junior golf program for girls 7-17. We provide a network for girls to play golf, build friendships and sample competition in a supportive learning environment. The girls work with a PGA or LPGA instructor to learn the basics in rules, etiquette, full swing, short game and putting. We also strive to encourage partnerships with area golf associations and golf clubs for financial support and the establishment of mentor/mentee relationships with the junior golfers. Many of our graduates continue their involvement with golf by playing on their college teams. The Assistant First Tee Director in Seattle, WA, is a graduate of our program.

This is a request for a contribution from the Garden State Women's Golf Association toward our 2011 fundraising campaign and for your participation in our kick-off event at the course on May 22, 2011. Additional information is forthcoming.

Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions. I look forward to your continued support of our program.

Sincerely,

Beverly E. Harrison, JD

Site Director

Carolyn Cudone

The GSWGA is saddened by the recent death of Founding and Honorary Member, Carolyn Cudone. A long-time resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Mrs. Cudone was a nationally renowned golfer and the recipient of many distinguished golf awards and honors. She won numerous tournaments held throughout the Eastern Seaboard, most notably the North and South Women’s Amateur, and the Women’s Eastern Championship, as well as countless GSWGA, WMGA, WNJGA, and State Titles. Nationally, she won a record five consecutive United States Golf Association Senior Women’s Championships beginning in 1968. Her international accolades included selections to the 1956 U.S. Curtis Cup team, and serving as the victorious captain in 1970. Mrs. Cudone was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame in 1979, and the Carolyn Cudone Intercollegiate Championship is named in her honor. Most recently, she received the WMGA’s Judy Bell Award, and just this year was named the recipient of the prestigious Winnie Palmer Award by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association.

The GSWGA is very proud of all of her accomplishments, and is grateful for her contributions to our organization.
